Proliferation Resistance in Nuclear Systems

Proliferation resistance incorporates facility features that inherently slow or prevent the production and/or extraction of nuclear materials that could be used for weapon purposes.

The U.S. Department of Energy's National Nuclear Security Administration (DOE/NNSA) has launched the Proliferation Resistance Optimization (PRO-X) Program to coordinate efforts between U.S. government and industry to increase proliferation resistance during the design phase of reactors and other nuclear facilities.
